Hi OAR Racers
April 24, 2010

The "event" is coming together well! This year we expect to have over 100 participants, which is a nice growth over last year's race. We expect almost 1/2 of our racers coming from a home location more than 3 hours away, some from out of state!

In the past, the average age is 40 and the median age is 44. The ages range from 14 to 80!

The following link takes you to the online weather station located at my house, 1/2 mile from the race start!

General info-Race Day

-Our registration table will open at 9am. One table will have women's and team bib packets. The other table will have the men's bibs.
-Drop your kayak close to the water BUT then please move your car out of the immediate race area. We will have volunteers (Key Club members from Crystal River High School) to help you move kayaks in and out of the water.
-The bike staging area is centrally located next to the start/finish line.
-We will have 2 portable outhouses in the area.
-PLease put some tape (duct tape, etc) on your paddle shaft with your name on it to avoid mixups in paddles as so many look alike (like luggage at an airport.)
-After the race you may pick up your t-shirt and lunch while waiting for the award presentations.

Safety info

-We use a water start for kayaks to make it less chaotic and safer in the water. Also, due to the #  of racers we will have 2 flights.  The male individual racers will line up first to start and then EXACTLY 2 minutes later women individual and team kayakers will start. (This will make it easier to work out the times for awards).
-All racers must wear their PFD's in kayaks and helmets on the bikes.
-Ozello Trail will NOT be closed for the race but we will have safety volunteers and signs on the road to slow traffic down. The road DOES NOT have a shoulder.
-Bikers please follow the general flow of traffic. NO slipstreaming, no paceline, no bunching. Pass if you come up on another bike.
-Runners should run facing traffic, single file.

Team info

-When you check in, please inform the registration people which event each team member will be doing.
-When tagging from kayaking to bike, do this in the start/finish area and then biker will run to the bike staging area and get on bike and take off.
-When tagging from biker to runner, the biker MUST HAVE BOTH FEET OFF THE BIKE and on the ground but NOT straddling the bike. Then you can tag the runner to start that last leg of the race.

I have attached 2 maps of the race. One is of the entire race course. The other is a detailed map of the kayak course.
